Subj : World Series To : Steve Quarrella From : Joe Siegler Date : Sat Nov 10 2001 01:29 pm -> My best friend lives in New Jersey, and has responded "I'm going back to -> normal, then, and hating the Yankees" to statements about how we all have to -> get back to normal after 9/11. Without turning this conversation bitterly -> negative, I was a little put-off about the attitude of "We had something bad -> happen to us, we deserve the World Series championship." It doesn't work -> that way, although I'll be the first to admit that it'd have made good press -> clippings. Well, I have to admit, in the week after 9/11, I felt weird - I wanted the Yankees to win. Although that changed once the games started again. -> Wouldn't you move Milwaukee back to the AL? Well, you could do that, but Selig owns the Brewers, so I don't see them going anywhere. -> Wouldn't the folks in Baltimore feel threatened by the competition? Peter Angelos has already threatened lawsuits against putting someone in DC - claiming that's "his territory". Best guess is that they'll propose it, he'll bitch, and it'll get settled with $. I really want the Twins back in DC as the Senators again. -> teams. I would think that it would be based on money. I know the Expos are -> a lousy draw, but what about Minnesota? I heard Oakland's name in there at -> one Go read that URL I sent you in email, and I also posted here earlier today. There's a lot of good stuff in there by Gammons on this issue. -> point, and thought "Wait a sec...they traditionally do fairly well." If -> someone's logic was "Well, the Bay Area already has two teams," Texas has -> two teams, New York has two teams, Los Angeles has two teams, Chicago has -> two teams, etc. There's a lot of talk (although I doubt it will happen) of putting a third team in the NY area, the region can certainly support three teams, and it would put some more pressure on Steinbrenner. Speaking of Steinbrenner, whatever happened to that lifetime ban baseball gave him many years ago? Seem to recall it only lasted a few years. You know any details of that? -> Beware: I just dumped six of my echos where that was happening, but I'd -> have asked you -first- before I pitched this one. It's odd that the -> conversation starts AFTER Bonds takes the record, AFTER the World Series is -> over. Of course - I tried starting something before the World Series, but no one answered. Egad - perhaps I could write something for Fidosnooze about the echo. :) Joe --- QScan/PCB v1.20a / 01-0074 * Origin: The Arsenal of Freedom - From the land of ARod! (1:124/9006) .
