Subj : World Series To : Joe Siegler From : Steve Quarrella Date : Sat Nov 10 2001 01:48 am ->> the Series. After that, it was "I'm tired of the Yankees." JS> I think that's pretty much the feeling most everywhere except JS> New York. My best friend lives in New Jersey, and has responded "I'm going back to normal, then, and hating the Yankees" to statements about how we all have to get back to normal after 9/11. Without turning this conversation bitterly negative, I was a little put-off about the attitude of "We had something bad happen to us, we deserve the World Series championship." It doesn't work that way, although I'll be the first to admit that it'd have made good press clippings. ->> Other than a certain pitcher by the name of "Kim." I still ->> don't understand why Brenly didn't put him in during the blowout in ->> game six, to let him get his composure back after those two blown saves. JS> Probably because that wouldn't do anything for him, I would JS> think. Well, you caught how Brenly did the sentimental thing and let a couple of guys pitch in game six, just so they could say they pitched in the World Series? JS> The fun things now come with the off season fracas that's JS> already started. JS> Ignoring the legal challenges, This'll probably get held up in the courts for years and years. Remember when the Giants were going to St. Pete? Remember when the Twins were going to Raleigh? Hell, remember when the Padres were going to DC? :-) JS> The Diamondbacks move from the NL West to the AL West The Wouldn't you move Milwaukee back to the AL? JS> Now having said this, I do NOT want the Twins to go away. If JS> anything, move 'em back to DC and be the Senators again. I Wouldn't the folks in Baltimore feel threatened by the competition? I fully admit that I don't understand all the hows and whys behind folding teams. I would think that it would be based on money. I know the Expos are a lousy draw, but what about Minnesota? I heard Oakland's name in there at one point, and thought "Wait a sec...they traditionally do fairly well." If someone's logic was "Well, the Bay Area already has two teams," Texas has two teams, New York has two teams, Los Angeles has two teams, Chicago has two teams, etc. JS> BTW, the day they annoucned all this, I ran out to the JS> Ballpark in Arlington and bought myself a Marlins, Expos, & JS> Devil Rays hat - if these guys go away, you can bet your ass JS> their merchandise will be hard to come by. Wanted a hat of JS> theirs before I couldn't get it anymore. Tell me all about it: I have a friend in the embroidery business (who may be able to do us some Dopefish stuff :) whom I hope to convince to do me some polo shirts with the logos from the Michigan Panthers, the Michigan Stags, the Detroit Express, the Detroit Wheels, and a slew of other Michigan-related sports teams you've probably never heard of. :-) You sure can't find the merchandise, obviously. JS> One other thing, Steve.. How many echoes are there where you JS> and I are pretty much the only conversations going? :) Beware: I just dumped six of my echos where that was happening, but I'd have asked you -first- before I pitched this one. It's odd that the conversation starts AFTER Bonds takes the record, AFTER the World Series is over. --- * Origin: Fnord (1:393/9005) .
