HOWEVER, he didn't get banned. That's VERY important. SQ> Them's fightin' words, man. :-) At the time he was banned, Jackson was getting BETTER. It took him a couple of years to get used to the park but he was starting to get better. At the same time in their careers, Jackson finished with .356 while Cobb was at .368. Jackson would have been able to take advantage of the rule changes as well and raised his game. BTW, if you stop Cobb's career in 1919, he'd have been 1400 hits short of his career totals and others would have been the standard. SQ> There's also that issue of 152/162 games, which plagued Roger Maris Baloney. There's also the issue of ALL DAY games vs night and day, ALL WHITE vs the total spectrum and the tighter strike zone. SQ> The point I make is that the HOF makes an issue of activities on and off They only make issues as they see fit. Cobb's escapades were well known when he was enshrined in 1936 and everyone and his mother knew that Ruth was a drunk. I hate to say it but "off-the-field" seems to apply only to those that are off-white in color. SQ> FWIW, I'd like to see the league review the Rose case. Personally, I SQ> think he should be enshrined. If they could document that he bet on SQ> baseball -- they can't, can they, or at least, not on his team? -- I'd SQ> be listening, but if it's all hearsay, well, what happened to innocent SQ> until proven guilty? You need to get on the Internet to see some of the damning evidence. I once thought Pete wasn't THAT stupid but now, I *KNOW* that he was. The man bet on baseball and even more damning, he bet on the Reds. Yes, he bet on them to win, however; he still bet on them. While MOST of the fingerprints on betting slips and other evidence doesn't meet ALL of the points for evidence, most people are in agreement that they are his AND there IS a betting slip that does have a PERFECT fingerprint that more than meets the rules of evidence. Rose is as guilty as O.J. (Yes, I believe that as well) and deserves to stay out of the HOF (I also believe that they should put Comiskey out of the HOF as well. He's just as guilty as the ones that committed the crime). --- TrekEd 1.00 * Origin: Where did you go, Joe Charboneau? (1:170/1701) .
