Subj : Re: New Version? To : JIM HOWARTH From : SHANNON TALLEY Date : Sat Mar 31 2001 02:14 pm Hi Jim, I wouldn't choose perl because perl doesn't interact the way an active program can. For instance, with PERL would it be possible for two players online at the same time to have a battle against each other? Perl would deliver 'static' content. ASP "or" a program which runs on it's own server and serves dynamic content from an active program would. There are several on the market.. ASP is the first one that comes to mind. However, a Java based program which accesses an active dynamic program would likely be the easiest and wisest method. The "active" program could certainly be written in "C". Perl wouldn't serve up much more than static content. Nearly everything can be cross-platformed these days. However, the active program that I would use would certainly cross between Linux (Unix) and WinNT. Hey - it's not a flame war until someone calls someone else a twit... I think we are certainly all above that. "Just my 2 pence.." Cheers, Shannon -> -> Don't want to start a flame war here, but why would you choose such a -> platform specific (and bloody expensive) way of serving up pages for the -> game. Perl _is_ compilable, its excruciatingly portable from OS to OS (I -> really wouldn't be surprised if there was even perl for amigas.. not that it -> would be used in this instance. --- From the Administrator at http://www.fidotel.co * Origin: FidoTel on the Web! www.fidotel.com, Virginia Beach!!
