Subj : [PENN] Naturalization Rec To : ALL From : RICHARD J. RILEY Date : Thu Jun 29 2000 08:23 am @SUBJECT:[PENN] Naturalization Records N Dear Fellow Rooters; Through the kind assistance of Regina K. on the Philly list, I have what appears to be the references to obtain the naturalization papers for my great grandfathers brother, Lewis E. RAINS. The Declaration of Intention was filed at the Quarter Sessions Court on 8 Jan 1861 and his Oath of Allegiance and associated documentation was taken at the Court of Common Pleas on 11 October 1864. I do realize that these documents might not be as genealogically revealing as one would hope, due to their dates. But I am obsessed, as most of us are, with anything that might be family related. I also know that these can be obtained from the City Archives - I have the street address but not the zip code. And that the fee will be $5.00. Will that be $5.00 for the Declaration papers and another $5.00 for the final papers? Also, if any of the subscibers have any experience with the City Archives, perhaps you could tell me what the response time might be. So, my questions are these: What is the zip code for the City Archives? What response time might I expect from the City Archives? (Of course, if some kind soul in Philadelphia is planning a trip to the City Archives and could make copies of said documents I will guarantee the fee the City Archives would charge, and 50% of your parking cost). Thank You In Advance. Regards Richard J.
