GM>> Microsoft TCP/IP-32 3.11b [default] GM>> Microsoft NetBEUI GM>> IPX/SPX Compatible Transport with NetBIOS RT> I'm not sure you need those second two... IPX/SPX in particular is RT> something that's got to do with Novell networks, Until, I got on XPP, IPX/SPX was required to LAN my three systems. I do not have it now and I can LAN fine. When looking at the I/F device on W98SE, it showed " Novell " and I never knew what that was. Now, on XPP, it does not show this. I have no clew why ! GM> I have the XPP as "XPHome" and the W98SE as "Workgroup" and I GM> haven't encountered any 'mishaps', yet... I'll set up all three GM> machines to have the same name -- "Workgroup"... You do have to have them all on the same "named" network but choose another name than Workgroup for security and make is simple. Mine is called X for short, X is not it though. You can call yours P or PP or whatever but for a normal person, too much security is bad even if you NEED some. At one time, I did not want to use a password and left the slot blank safe for a space bar stroke. I then was always asked for the PW and I could not provide it until I saw that the slot cursor was not abuted to the left margin, it was a space. I changed the PW then and there and have been very cautious since about too much security.
