IIRC, this is true... why? because networking requires the ability to lock 
whole files or portions of files... SHARE.EXE is what gives DOS that 
capability...

that's no right... something is wrong if you have problems with SHARE loaded 
and FD... what are the symptoms? i've /always/ loaded SHARE with FD... mainly 
because i was always running it under a multitasker of one type or another... 
under winwhatever (greater than wfwg) and OS/2, share type stuff is loaded 
automatically...

probably but i don't know what you have to edit to make it work ;) without a 
mapped drive, it won't anyway unless you like playing with UNC stuff (ie: 
//machine/resource)...
