        Sorry for personal quote here. But to have you rejoice with me,
 I want to say that the LAN is back up and running. It seems that
 everytime that I jump into the "Setup LAN" folder, it resets itself to
 a new network name, on Win98-SE, it was Workgroup and on XPP it is
 MSHOME. I reset it to my network name and bingo... contact.

        Now, why it does not keep the chosen  name is beyond me so far.
 There has to be a trick, not found yet. Just a FWIW to you.
