Subj : Files on LAN. To : GERALD MILLER From : JEAN PARROT Date : Wed Jun 30 2004 11:28 am Hello Gerald, 'tis a nice day today. JP> involved here in your LAN setup. L = local ! GM> I'll get there, eventually.... :)) LANs are still a little mysterious to me too. Yesterday, i wanted to print from the remore laptop via WL and set up a printer on the router LPT1 ( misnomer ) port. I worked fine from the master system but I lost my LAN. Why ? I have not found out yet. I can not see the remote laptop anymore but I can print from the router. GM> I'm going to continue throwing any info about WfW, because there has GM> to be someone out there reading this that has the knowledge I'm GM> seeking.... Way to go. The bunch here and on the Win95 echo are tremendously helpful. I have learned to fix problems here and it is all free, to boot. GM>> I'll try to drag and drop something from one folder on one box to GM>> another folder on the other box and see what happens. That is how I do it. I even D&D to a CD-RW that I kept open. The send to command is the same in an other disguise. GM> The router sets the IP addresses for all the machines when they come GM> online and maintains those addresses until the router looses power (and GM> that happens regularly with this particular router). Well, they will get their own IP when they are turned ON, in turn. I leave my router ON 24/7 as it is required by the Lady upstairs. GM> I really need that much security? If so, which machine should I set GM> it up on? You never have enough. I have ZA running on ALL my systems. It will only protec the one where it sits. Luckily, they offer a free version. Go grab it. You have to surf around their site to find it but it is worth it. ___ Blue Wave/DOS v2.30 --- Platinum Xpress/Win/WINServer v3.0pr5 * Origin: Try Our Web Based QWK: DOCSPLACE.ORG (1:123/140) .
