Welp, in spite of all the very good advice in the echo, I found absolutely nothing that would work with my particular setup. When the USB DSL modem is removed, the network converses properly, but with it installed the machine still obtains an IP address but refuses to surf or otherwise access the internet EXCEPT for a small program called Analog-X Netstat Live which shows my LAN or Internet connection, just a cutesy display that shows my speed, but it does show things trying to connect to the net. Win98SE's ICS was absolutely no help, Sygate was no help, NetProxy no good, not what I needed. [shrug]. Soooo, I bit the bullet yesterday, and out of frustration, anxiety and anger at 'technicians' (local computer stores) who had no idea even what a router was, and called BellSouth (my ISP) and they are sending me an Alcatel Speed Touch Home modem, which is an Ethernet modem. Buy a Linksys router (here at Best But for 29.95,2 port), RJ45 here and on the other machine to the router, and viola... I hope. BH>> Thanks Frank! I'll let you know how it turns out. FR> Good luck with it. Once you have it installed, you'll see how easy it FR> really is to manage this stuff! :) There were just too many questions and variables in my setup I guess, like when installing the TCP/IP for the ethernet card, should I have used DHCP? WINS Resolution? I tried setting up similar addresses in each machine, eg..10.10.10.10 255.255.255.0.0 (Server) and 10.10.10.1 255.255.255.0.0 (Client), same workgroup name, I tried evething I could think of in different combinations, yet to no avail. Hopefully the new modem and router will do the trick. Cross yer fingers for me. :) Regards, Bennie --- WildCat! * ViaMail! * GoldED+ * Origin: The Wall BBS, Augusta Ga: Where the fun *never* ends!
