It has been a while since I last set samba up as well, but if I remember correctly, PDC was still in devel and win2k would not recognize the samba server. The nice thing is the documentation that surrounds samba. It is hard to go wrong, a little confusing at times, but in the end it all seems to work out fine. The PDC is only for playing around here at home, while I was looking at using it about the same as you are. sharing files between the office and home computers without going thru ftp....
