I have had several bits of different advice.  It seems that  if I was
running WIN98SE there is a program in there that might help, but I only
have the plain WIN98. The other thing I was told was to get a "router?",
what ever that is.

Yes, fine thanks.  The problem was due to a corrupt file called
*Spool32*.  Once I had deleted that and copied over the one from the
other computer, everything worked fine.
