Subj : Re: hairball formula? To : Carol Shenkenberger From : Susan Cook Date : Thu Aug 10 2000 09:35 pm Carol Shenkenberger was heard barking to Susan Cook about Re: hairballformula?! CS> I got a 'green machine'. It slurps up hairballs and cleans the carpet CS> at the same time . CS> Seriously though, there is a difference in lenght of hair and age of CS> cat. Older or more hair, more hairball problems. Cats jut like CS> humans, cant digest hair and as far as I can tell, either naturally CS> 'upchuck' it (that nature need is why they nose any green plants you CS> may have and knaw them if they find the acceptable) or they need a CS> natural way to pass it. Ally sure loved the cat grass plant I had for her. It didn't last very long but she grazed on it with pure delight when it was around. She isn't as prone to the hairballs as Cobee though. And he wasn't really interested in the plant.. although he likes to attack the others. CS> I dislike messing with nature. I have a feeling 'furball medicine' CS> should be used in moderation. What it does is basically act like 'too CS> much exlax' causing possible dehydration and probably a sore 'anterior CS> exit' on the cat if not totally accomodated juices are handled. (eat CS> a few Jalapenos and ask me in netmail if not sure afterwards of what I CS> mean). Grin.. so far I have not had this problem with my kitties. They both like IAMS Hairball formula and Cobee LOVES tonic lax.. I never give as much as the directions reccommend. Just a glop on my finger. CS> BTW, most cats cant handle 'lactose' (cow type) after weening so milk CS> is a mild laxitive for them. Kinda like you eating a single isolated CS> prune if 1/3 cup is split 3 ways which works out to about 2 oz per CS> cat and an extra KittyLitter change next day. Given every day or CS> (IMHO every week) would be a health hazard but once a month seems to CS> be a gentle acting thing they enjoy. It amazed me (when I started working at the vets) that cats were NOT supposed to eat fish or drink milk because of the digestive problems.. Growing up all I heard was that cats LOVED these two very things.. I guess it's like us and junk food. We know it's bad for us.. but it looks and smells and tastes so good that it's hard to resist. .... Do not anger cats, for they are subtle and will pee on your computer. --- EzyBlueWave V1.48g0 01fd0192 * Origin: Milky Way, Langley, BC [604] 532-4367 (1:153/307) .
