Subj : Re: Bobby the Bobcat To : Robert Richards From : Carol Shenkenberger Date : Thu Jul 27 2000 09:34 am *** Quoting Robert Richards from a message to Carol Shenkenberger *** CS> message area, its pretty much mindless stuff. RR> Oh Well... there are Some areas I know of that would be fun to get in Oh a few, but it's actually more fun here if you really want to talk and want time to consider an answer. 'Trolls' here are rare. CS> the grey side. Bobby was colored to hide in dry straw, as one would CS> expect. One of the Internet most primary links makes you think they are CS> only native to southern Canada. It's a canadian page so I guess thats CS> why? They also say all Bobcats are grey. Dunno. I guess they are there? RR> In Canada? Have no idea. Nor I.I can only go on that page. The bad thing about the Internet is folks think it's 'gospel'. In reality, it's less accurate than you could possibly believe in a huge number of sites. I'd say offhand the 'innaccurate ones' outnumber the acurate ones. RR> With the 'highjacker' rear end too... CS> Mostly just 'big legs'. Rather muscular. Not 'taller' but could jump CS> with ease. Or did you mean the tail? Looked a bit like an invite to a CS> gay male but lets not go there . RR> Well... on Some of them, the Back legs look a little longer, but that RR> may just be how they walk. True! I didnt notice much myself on that. Maybe a little higher but not anything so radical as to be 'obvious' at a glance. CS> I don't have many 'Bobby Tales' left of note. Most the the rest are just CS> him sleeping with me (trying to get up to the bed, tuckerd out after CS> climbing the stairs to face that last hurdle, the BEDSPRED). RR> Oh the Horror!!!! Not the evil Bedspred!!!! Hehehe he was just out of the bodycast. Able to crawl about. He'd discovered kitty-litter (automatically knew what to do the first time and never a bobble once out of the cast and able to get to it). Kept a second pan upstairs in the bathroom at the early days since climbing was hard on him. CS> One treasured though. CS> Bobby was about 2 years old. I was letting him out to play with the CS> peke/little doggie thingie. The 2 would take turns chasing one another CS> around the building. Ever seen a 60 lb cat chased by a 5 lb pooch? Its CS> hilarious! If they do it in the snow, you will heave your cookies from CS> laughing so hard! CS> Anyways, it was summer not winter. They were chasing one another and the CS> backside of my complex faced the pool. A young mother had left for a CS> moment and a group there having a cookout with a few beers were not CS> watching the toddler (1.5? 2 YO?). Kid fell in. CS> I was not there so know only from description that he leaped the fence CS> (not but 4 ft high) and dove in. HE knew the kid didnt belong in the CS> pool! Dragged the kid out while the fellows having the pool party were CS> just catching on that there was a problem. CS> Bobby got well fed with Fajitas and stuff that day . The mother swore CS> she would not leave the kid without warning an adult again.... CS> Sigh, the mother wasnt but 18 and the others were not much older. They CS> luckily got a scary but painless warning about toddlers. Bobby got in CS> the local news for a day and the Apartment Manager rebated my pet fee RR> Hmmmmmm..... you know... of his picture was in the Paper, or he was o RR> TV, they Might have some Pictures you can get from their archives?? W RR> not make up for all the ones you lost, but it would be something? No picture. Just a backpage story on the 'local events'. I gather it was deemed to 'unbelievable' to go farther. I mean think about it. 'Cat Jumps in Pool and Saves Toddler' ?? Yeah riiight... If he hadnt been sopping wet and everyone telling me about the terrific sight? Apparently they heard the kid splash, turned to look, and saw Bobby sailing over the fence, one touch/bound-off and splashed into the pool, headed for the toddler, snags toddler just as he goes under and drags by tshirt to stairs....(to be met by several paniced adults all praising Bobby). I got there just a few minutes later, having been on the other side of the building (my front yard was on the other side, the back end of the building was the pool area). I still find it hard to believe, but have no reason to disbelieve what the neighbors said and the cat was soaked to the skin and the shirt was showing teethholes at the back of the neck. Toddler was crying and not scared of Bobby so it was obvious Bobby hadnt done anything to make him scared. BTW, the complex had 2 pools. The 'adult pool' (kids not allowed) and the 'family pool' (big thing, big enough for actual exercise laps, with a low end for kids and a toddler pool at the side). The pool by my place was the adult pool. The other one on peak days, had 'lifeguards' (parents took turns covering peak hours, I used to watch for my neighbor who couldnt swim to do her share which was 1 hour every other month and her day was Sunday. I'd just mark the calendar which hung on a board in the laundry room. Voluntary stuff all of it). xxcarol --- Telegard v3.09.g2-sp4 * Origin: SHENK'S EXPRESS Norfolk VA 757-486-3057 28.8 Dual (1:275/100) .
