Subj : Question To Clear Messages Marked New

Is there a way in synchronet to "mark all messages" as read?  that way when you
are a new user to a system you can sort of start fresh with new mesages instead
of having to read 500+ per sub-board?  I'm probably missing something here. 
Any help would be appreciated.
