In apache, I could set a vh to handle any unprocesed requests, or listen to a specific port number. I assumed (the mother of all mistakes hehehe) that the port # would determine the protocol used. Now.. this gives me a new boggle. I was looking for a web based MTA that would allow members of my site to have a free e-mail acccount, without actually making them an account on the system (shell). I figured something in the cgi-bin, which could be bounced from a virtual host listening on port 119 (on a totally seperate incoming ip addy). But the good news.. for me and for Leroy.. most routers can either forward or filter ports to a specific mac address which allows keeping the DHCP function of the router, but sorting things where they belong. So.. DM.. to totally confuse you.. how would I go about the following: I have 3 Kits.. 2 Linux .. 1 Windows 2k server. The BBS will run from Win32, Apache runs from 1 linux box, admin (linux) functions such as telnet, ftp, etc run from the second linux box. the BBS will be bbs.mydomain.org, the website will be only mydomain.org, etc.. I'd like to keep e-mail seperate for each. Since the MX will only point to one IP, and I'd like to keep 3'rd party mail clients working.. would SBBS have a major problem with non standard ports? The user would hit the VH on the pop3 default port (linux), be bounced to the win2k machine on a different port, same with incoming mail. In the default services.cfg, the ports look easy enough to change.. but would the SBBS MTA care if they were different? Thanks.. .
