Using what version of Synchronet? Are you using the latest FOSSIL driver
(SBBSEXEC.VXD)?

Some 16-bit DOS doors do not run one on multi-tasking OSes.

It's enough horsepower for 32-bit doors, certainly. Some 16-bit doors use more
overhead and CPU time.
