Subj : ? on bbs performance

I just set up my synchronet bbs on a p2-333/256 mb on win98 on my private t1.

When i have multiple nodes trying to play at doors at once, the system crawls
and the doors are unbearable to play. 

is there an easy remedy to this?  shouldn't a 333 be enough horsepower?

Would linux give me better door performance?

The main function of this bbs is doors. thanks.
