I think the export command is just not supported in the stock shell. I found info on how to change and add shells. Will play with it when time allows. I mainly wanted to see what the OS was like. I would have already installed freebsd OS i have 4.6 in a commercial pack with all the port cd's etc. i could just not ever get passed the hardware config part of the install. But I understand more about it from reading so my next step after checking out symphony...will be an attempt to get through a complete full freebsd install. It will be worth it and will be mentally stimulating.
