It looks like XMMS will work fairly well once you find all the
drivers for it. It just takes a bit of work to hunt them down.

I find it frustrating that so often things that worked fine in a
previous release suddenly don't in a new release, like instead of
adding to the 'detectables' database they substitute new ones for
old ones. Admittedly I'm not much experienced at this and have
really only tried things like Knoppix to do a stand-alone startup
of Linux to see what it was like but, on exactly the same computer,
one distro will work and then the next won't and then the next
is anyone's guess..  No doubt doing a full install of any distro
and then searching for whatever is missing I could probably get
most of the hardware working but, unless you already know how to
troubleshoot from a Linux command line, you often end up staring
at a black screen..
