Using an older version of Knoppix while attempting to salvage a friend's box from Windoze spy/mal warez, I noticed a great deal of difficulty when attempting to copy filez to a pocked HD I had. (Yes, I mean filez; he wanted his pr0n and warez backed-up. :-) ) The peculiear thing... It would progress in spurts, copying many MBs in moments but then stalling for much longer. (Eventually, I gave in and copied the data while in his infested Windoze environment. I _do_ use only Mac and Linux, so I assumed it would be fairly safe; I seem to have been correct thus far.) When using Windoze, the drive was much more responsive -- snappier even. It was also behaved much better on my PowerBook -- I do need a power USB hub for it to work, and it is finiky as to which port I use with the PowerBook and the hub, but it _does_ transfer data at the advertized rate with no inxeplicable lag. Linux is coming.... ^w here; embrace the penguine.... -- Link of the week: http://web.archive.org/web/20030423212449/http://user.tninet.se/~prv247p/hatt/h atten.swf --- þ Synchronet þ iQLand - Home of a disgruntled BOFH! .
