Though geared for FC2, the Redhat Fedora Core 2 Bible is a decent read.. 
though, haven't read too many books on *nix to compare it to, there is also a 
Linux Pocket Guide from O'Reily that's a really good primer for the console 
interface, and using the command line tools in nix... allong with editor 
use/tips...
