By default, distributions can't include mp3 playback because of legal issues. 

Check to see if you have xmms installed ..

rpm -qa | grep xmms

Uninstall xms , but not the skins (if you have included the skins in your
installation)

rpm -e --nodeps xmms-x.x.x.x (the version number)

Go to the xmms website and download the latest build appropriate for your
distiribution. Save and install the rpm .. download mp3's as usual. 

Real Player / Helix also are supported (I think by default in fc3 distros)
