OK, so you used a kernel config that required you to use an initial ramdisk.
I always compile everything I need to boot into the kernel... actually for that
matter since I have a problem getting ramdisks to work in the lilo config, I
just compile everything into the kernel. Makes for a large kernel though.
<shrug> Matter of fact, since the LiveCD is all you need to repair an
unbootable Gentoo system, it doesn't matter if my kernel can fit on a floppy
these days. :P
