 Sorry for dredging up old messages, but I can't resist responding to this one.

Once you have Gentoo installed (like I do on 6 machines) It's the easiest OS to
maintain. I've been using Linux for over 10 years and I've never loved a distro
like I do Gentoo.  I've tried many different distros, Debian, Red Hat, 
Slackware, Mandrake (back when it was Mandrake), and many others. 

Gentoo, once compiled for your machine, will run things much faster than any 
standard pre-compiled distro. and emerge makes things easy to maintain and 
update.
