I'm not sure about x, but to see ansi and extended characters properly on
Mandrake you'll need to use the echo command Sniper gave you and also change
the default font from lat0-16 to default8x16. That works well for me here
anyway. Kermit works well on mandrake to although you'll need to build it
yourself, and then you can transfer qwk/files.

I have a post somewhere around here that explains how to change your default
font on mandrake. Let me know if you'd like to see it and I'll find it.
