To enable high ASCII codes, you need to use the following command. echo -en '\033(U' What I did was placed this in the file /etc/profile. Now, I haven't run a Red Hat type OS in a long time, so, I don't know if this will work for you. The profile is run each time a user opens a shell, so, adding the above command enables the high ASCII codes when the open a shell. If I remember, in some cases, the file is .profile for each individual, and may be in their personal directory. Anyway, hope that helps.
