Was just poking around at:

ftp://ftp.freebsd.org/pub/FreeBSD/ports/i386/packages-4-stable/

It looks like the binary packages for the 4.X are still online there.

Under www you'll find the wget-1.8.2_6.tgz, which should install right 
into your home on the 4.4 box.
