Subj : Media Playing To : ALL From : ROB MCCART Date : Tue Nov 16 2004 05:03 pm A friend of mine, a relative Linux newbie, recently installed Fedora Core 3 and has a problem... He's tried a lot of things to fix it but basically the right question should be, what do you need to get something to play AVI and MP3 files ? He installed Totem, but it gave an uninformative error message, something like, "Can not play, unknown reason.." (He's played these same files more than a year ago in various other versions of Linux so they aren't too new..) He tried installing MPlayer but could only find an RPM for Core 2 which had dependancy problems but wouldn't tell him what package he was missing, and then he tried something from the command line which listed the file needed but Googling for that file just gave him an exerpt saying something about it maybe being a glitch in the install instructions in the RPM file... I know this is too vague to be Really helpful but I wanted to give an idea of what he's trying.. As I said at the start, what he needs to know is what does he need to play AVI and MP3's that for whatever reason Fedora didn't bother including?.. --- þ SLMR Rob þ If you can't afford to go first class - Charge it ! þ þ PDQWK 2.52 #17 --- þ BgNet 1.0á12 ÷ Kentucky's Capitol City Online * 502/875-8938 * USR v34 .
