Their files that contain the export pointers for QWK networks. If you deleted
your sub-board data files, for example, then the message numbers stored in the
..PTR files would no longer be valid.

The files are *supposed* to be self-healing, but that feature was broken in
v3.12 and has already be fixed for future releases.
