XP-DOS is an emulated environment, and doesn't perform well at all, you might actually have decent luck with DOSBOX under XP for what you are wanting to do.. I'm using a p4 in HT mode (if you dissable HT for when you run dosbox, should perform well enough) ... it doesn't quite run duke nukem 3d well enough, but doom/doom2 should run fine under it.. and should give you access to the modem afaik.. will have to check on your dosbox.conf settings to see if you can set your real modem to the com1/com2 in dosbox. -- Michael J.
