Here's a good article explaining the technical > details: http://tinyurl.com/9jzuo thanks for the link, it was informative. few things i should mention: RAMPage source is available: http://www.jfitz.com/software/RAMpage/rampg16_source.zip features (from the homepage): http://www.jfitz.com/software/RAMpage: * Frees memory automatically, on demand, or after an application finishes running i am assuming he means closing open handles or something? * Low active memory footprint, low resource and cpu usage * Can run "hidden" which reduces memory and resource usage * Can be run from a batch file, or via a shortcut, to free memory * Easy to install/configure * Freeware Things RAMpage does NOT do: * Free System, GDI, User resources (sorry!) * Compress memory * Modify cache, or other system settings so it looks like he isn't making a claim to defrag, that was my error. There was another program that came with a feature built into HoverDesk (http://www.hoverdesk.net) - a shell for windows (replacement or in unity with explorer.exe) that double clicking the ram read out would claim to 'defragment' memory. So it doesn't defragment memory. It monitors memory usage in the tray and does the things mentioned above somehow. The source is available Rob, if you want to look at it. Maybe he did something cool? I dunno.. but I have used it in the past when having several applications open simultaneously (photoshop/imageready/dreamweaver/illustrator) which eat tons of memory and have watched the reports in taskmon (or taskmgr or whatever it is -- the ctrl-alt-del thing) before and after running the memory cleanup feature of RAMpage and it has made a difference.. though the difference was in the Mem column and i don't know what that measures or where the stats come from.. - grymmjack .
