Do you have 2 routers running and > doing > DHCP at the same time? Do you have a server? Is it running DHCP? I don't use a router, actually, which is what creates the problem. The DSL modem gets assigned a static IP that makes the ISP dialer fail (even to install) and makes the BBS computer blind to incoming connections. As for DHCP, I don't recall EVER activating that anywhere. Last time this happened, it was because my daughter had been playing around in control panel and found her way to installing Interner Connection Sharing, but I checked and the protocol wasn't installed this time (or it was and then got hastily UNinstalled, leaving this mess in its wake). It's a bastardized system, and I only have 2 computers up at the moment because I'm going to use the 3rd to stumble through a Linux install. The modem's a dual boot Westell, and the USB port connects to my Win2K box while the ethernet port's connected to a Win_98SE box next to it. (The BBS is currently on the Win2K box.) Unorthodox, I know, but aside from an occasional disagreement between the 2 that would momentarily hang everything during a DNS query, it really did work very well. The 2 computers are linked together with a patch cable and use TCP/IP, IPX, and NetBIOS. When I set it up, I set everything to have all addresses assigned automatically, and it was all good until a few days ago when I rebooted the Win2K box and was surprised to see it tell me it had finished updating the configuration... and I hadn't changed anything. When it loaded up, the dialer couldn't find the modem anymore, but I noticed that the connection, though not logged into, was flowing actually quite nicely. But not on the Win_98SE box, because IT now had no idea how to find the modem. I finally managed to get the direct connection re-established not an hour ago, and it was a royal pain in the ass. Ultimately, I just scrapped the Win98 box and reinstalled everything to configure itself to the new setup minus the internet connection, ethernet card and all. Now... The address assigned to the DSL modem (which I tried swapping with another to get rid of the assigned IP to no avail) is 192.168.0.1, which along with the rest of the settings looks exactly like it did when ICS got installed minus the actual protocol and assigned shared connection. So, after trying to get it to release that static IP and NOT reassign it over and over again for 2 days, I finally said the hell with it and fully installed ICS to re-establish internet connection to the Win98 box. But at this point, my head's just swimming with the changes I've already made over and over again so I'm just frustrating myself every time I sit down to troubleshoot, and the little sucker's being stubborn, so disk #3 of Fedora's 85% downloaded as of now.
