Subj : my project To : All From : Beta Date : Tue May 03 2005 11:56 pm ok folks, i have this litle project i want to do. i have this dual pentium II machine sitting here with no real meaning to life. i have these extra 4 10/100 MBit network cards. and one 10mbit network card. the first 4 nics are PCI realtek cards.. the 10mbit is a generic isa ne2000 compat. the O/S i'm thinking of using is either WinNT Workstation/Server 4.0 or Win2k Pro/Server any one of those. oh btw the system has 256meg of ram. i guess that sums up the hardware.. Now for the project itself. I would like to make this pc a 10/100 NAT router. using the 10mbit nic as the broadband incoming and the 4 10/100 pci cards are the connection from the server to the rest of my network. i would like to use 192.168.0.x for the ip addy's on all the 10/100's. so basically this machine with either be an old style HUB or a newer Router. any ideas where to start or if it can be done? i do currently have a 10mbit hub that's plugged in to my dsl modem that i'd like to elimate. the dsl modem is currently acting as a DHCP/NAT server. which it is directly plugged in to my 4 port hub which is connected to my pc's for network/internet access. yes i know i can pick up a router these days for like 60ish bucks. blah why spend the money if i can tinker with with something and get the same or similar results? plus it could act as a file server or maybe replace my current bbs hardware. dunno just a thought.. if anyone has an idea or know if this can be done with little effort. tia The Wilson New York BBS telnet:/wnybbs.mine.nu telnet:/wnybbs.zapto.org SysOp: Beta --- þ Synchronet þ The Wilson NY BBS - wnybbs.mine.nu - Home Of The TAN QWK Network .
