  This is exactly why I went to the trouble to make a bootable floppy (and
several copies) that tries a series of CDROM drivers before dropping to the DOS
prompt, and made sure fdisk, scandisk, edit, format, sys, and mscdex are on
there.

  I never have to worry anymore about being able to get a computer to start up
under those conditions and scramble around looking for the most basic tools I
need to rebuild a system.
