what do you mean "thought USB 2.0 support was USB 2.0 support?

if you don't install the USB 2.0 motherboard drivers and you have a USB 2.0
ONLY device it's not gonna work. but most 2.0 devices are backward compatible
with usb 1.1. the only thing i can say is find out your mobo manufacturer and
then either head over to driverguide.com or your mobo website
