Huh?  I don't think thats right...  I've worked with hundereds... they all
do the modes correctly, just as a CRT.  They can't do the same modes that 
a CRT can.  

In the old days, the LCD screen's on laptop computers sometimes did what
your refering to... but I don't believe that's the case any longer.

I much perfer CRT's, their .pitch is always higher... Rarely
can I find a dot pitch lower than .26, most are .28 or there abouts...
whereas with the CRT's, its easy to find monitors that can do .22 or .24... 
which means more pixels per inch, higher resolutions.  This is what I base
my monitor purchases on.  The lower the dot pitch resolution, the better
the monitor.
