I ran a Samsung 4.3 gig drive 24/7 for years, still have it in a test box
somewhere. I think everyone has one good brand and one crap brand, but it
varies by person. Must me karma or something. I get good life out of WD
drives, too.

When drives were more expensive, I liked WD drives because they had a
decent warranty and no-questions asked return policy. There wasn't a lot of
back-and-forth, just call them up and ship it back if it's under warranty.

I tried that with Maxtor and they shipped me a spare dead drive.
