But to switch to Dvorak layout or whatever, causes you no end of grief if 
you suddenly find yourself faced with a "good old" QWERTY layout at your 
next client, or in a hotel room, etc.  Same reason I make sure I know 
enough 'vi' to pilot my way around with it.  At least I *know* it will be 
available any time I see a UNIX shell-prompt, and won't have to moan and 
groan about how Eeee-Max wasn't installed...
