True enough, it was just used as an off my system test :)  No colour, but the 
delays were still there.  Reminded me of the old days when people used to use 
TheDraw and accidentially leave animation mode on while they drew a screen 
over a week.

No, I didn't try Hyperterminal (yet).

It's very possible but I think it's a setting or a configuration particular to 
me, not the hardware.  I achieve over 100kps on the bandwidth and when I 
connect with Vert (with no other activity) I crap right out on the scree 
before the external bulletins and also en route to the message menu.  If I 
press a key ... everything displays instantly.  As a matter of fact if I press 
(ie) a twice I get to answer a message.

I think it is a configuration setting, but if I can figure out what's wrong 
out of the box, then it'd make a great faq item.
