Subj : Grrrrr... To : FRANK REID From : ROB MCCART Date : Wed Apr 13 2005 06:18 pm FR>Ya know, both a buddy of mine and I had Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 9 (6Y080L0) >go bad within the past week. I thought it was just coincidence, but I >joked about how they must've been time-bombed! Now I'm starting to >wonder! :) FR>Fortunately, I had mine in a RAID configuration with a Western Digital >WD800BB, so I didn't lose anything like he did You see discussions like this from time to time.. and it always comes back with bad drives showing up from, probably certain production runs, for virtually all makes. I swore I'd never own another Western Digital after problems I and others had with Them, but Maxtors my friends had seemed bullet-proof. Others said the opposite.. The place I bought my last system said SamSung was crap but Maxtor and Western Digital were about equally okay.. "Fair" The only one they said they really liked was Seagate.. I got a 160 gig Seagate just in case they were right. It's still running 3 months later... Who knows ?
