Subj : packet radio To : SPACEMAN SPIFF From : Daryl Stout Date : Fri Jul 08 2005 05:06 am >Hmmm, will all the users be HAMs or will it be Third party Traffic and you a >the control op? I know this wasn't originally addressed to me, but the reason I liked that packet door that W4KGU did was that: 1) A control file contains the name, callsign with SSID, and license class for those users authorized to access the door. If the callers name isn't in that control file...even if it is in the dropfile, the door won't let them in. 2) If they are found in that control file, the callsign for the TNC is changed from the Sysops callsign to that of the user. 3) The door then opens a capture file to record everything that the user does, for possible enforcement, if needed. Otherwise, it's like the user had the TNC in their shack. 4) When the user exits the door, the callsign is changed back to the Sysops, the capture file is closed, and any TNC parameter changes are reset back to default values. 5) If the TNC is offline for some reason, in use by the Sysop at the host console, or by another caller, the program alerts callers to such. 6) With it, I could work packet remotely over the BBS...as long as I could dial-in. But with the new telnet setup, and the way the door was programmed, I haven't been able to work with it.
