Check out www.arrl.org w5yi and QRZ, find a local HAM club and go to a meeting, meet some of the locals or you could just buy the Now Your Talking with HAM radio book from the ARRL, or Gordon West / W5YI has good stuff to. GO to any search engine (www.google.com) and do a search for any of the above. A little study, go to a local VE session, take the test, buy a radio either from a local HAM store or one on the Internet like HRO HAM RADIO OUTLET. While it is possible to do this all yourself, it really is a lot more fun if you can find some local HAMs that know the ropes to help you get started and give you tips and pointers. Especially if you are not knowlegable about electronics and building antennas and using SWR meters. You can always ask questions here. :) .
