I quite agree, I just bought a Pro-82 hand-held and I have a Pro-2018 base
scanner, and I am quite pleased with the performance.  I'm in a rural area
inside a steal apartment building and the best place for the scanner is often
on the window sill.
Haven't seen a Uniden scanner in over 10 years, so I don't know what they are
like.
My first scanner from RS was a Pro-30, way back in the 80s.
