Do you just want to talk with people in your vacinity? In your town or county, or state? Do you have an interest in communicating with people all over the world? Do you want to win awards and contests and certificates? Want to experiment with electronic circuitry? "Ham radio" is really a whole lot of related hobbies rolled into one, and it really depends on what you want. If it were *me*, I'd say get an HF rig and "work the world."
