This is a license free service whereas a small chunk was taken from Amateur Radio Operators in the 11 meter portion of the HF (High Frequency) area of the frequency spectrum. It has limitations of 4 watts max RF (Radio Frequency) output on NAM, and 12 Watts PEP (Peak Envelope Power) on either sideband mode. So since there is technicaly no 11 meter band in existence anymore, CB and the frequencies surrounding it are most commonly called "The 11 Meter Band". It is actually quite sad to listen to CB frequencies because there are so many people breaking the law. People running hundreds even thousands of watts of RF power, paying thousands of dollars on HAM equipment so they can swear at someone over the air. I guess they are too retarded to take a simple test and pay 10 dollars for ten years to get a license and talk to civilized people and make legal DX (Long Distance) contacts. It sucks for us (HAM radio operators) because while your neighbor 4 houses away is swearing at people with 1000 watts on channel 19, We are using about 100 watts PEP on 6 meters making a 1500 mile contact using Sporadic E propagation. Not only is he interfering with your reception of the staion you are trying to work 1500 miles away, but he is also coming through the baby monitor, stereo speakers, TV (that is un-watchable because of the massive RF detroying the signal), and pretty much everything in your next door neighbors house. Your next door neighbor doesn't see his somewhat "hidden" CB antenna down the street, but he sees your 6 meter beams, 2 meter beams, HF antenna, and 2 meter/440 vertical, and your mobile antenna on your car. He now thinks that you are the CBer!!! and he threatens to tear down all your CB antennas and call the FCC if you don't stop because he is trying to watch American Idol. You try to explain to him about filters and the legality of what you are actually doing as opposed to a CBer. The neighbor doesn't care because he just wants to watch COPS on FOX. So now you have to worry about your next door neighbor tearing down your antennas and possibly damaging your thousands of dollars in equipment. So you see, no, you don't need a license to talk on 11 meters. Jason - Whiskey Eight Zulu Zulu Uniform --- þ Synchronet þ Scanner Enthusiasts BBS - scannerbbs.dyndns.org - *Dove-Net .
