alright, now I feel the need to weigh in myself on the rig manufacturer
discussion... because no one has mentioned the manufacturer of my favorite
hand-held...  The Alinco DJ-580 !  It's an old dual-band model that still works
great, and I'll keep it around because most of todays models feel like toys
rather than radios to me... 

I also own two different mobile Rigs: a Yaesu FT-1500m, and an Icom V8000. I'd
disagree with the statement about the mics - I prefer the Icom mike on my V8000
to just about any other mobile mic I've seen - lots of functionality. There is
a learning curve, but these days the only thing I have to actually touch the
rig for is the power button itself.
