SH pointed out that Bush was no longer President while he (SH) was still in power, and based upon these circumstances, the claim that he had defeated Bush. But given the nature of American politics, nobody took that seriously, not even within Iraq itself. Dumb as he may be, I find it hard to believe that this idea was much of an influence on GWB's decision to attack Iraq. I consider it more likely that subsequent to Desert Storm, he may have heard GHWB saying something like "We should have finished him while we had the chance..." and felt that the chance to finish the job should not be neglected. But that is *purest* speculation on my part. > AM> So the Iraqi war has been a great success for GWB. Well, I feel it successfully diverted attention away from Afghanistan/OBL and essentially won him re-election. Don't forget that prior to the election, he was claiming that troop pull-out would begin in January 2005. We are now hearing carefully reasoned arguments suggesting that the US presence in Iraq may well have to be *permanent*..... > In fact I think richardw Jazzman and Ralph maybe the last hold outs... (-: Ralphie is a Texan, so you gotta give him a break. richardw seems to be horrified that anyone would disagree with the president, no matter *what* he said or did. Sort of like Papal Infallibility, Republican-style. Jazzy? He would argue that black is white and that the sky is pink, if you only suggested otherwise. He is long on vitriol, short on facts and is such a deaf, dumb and blind kid that he should take up pinball. You can safely ignore jazzy, because he in effect, doesn't really matter. --- þ Synchronet þ Generated automatically on The ANJO BBS .
