Kids today are more interested in TV and computer > games than homework. Simple enough. Sorry... disagree.... granted, kids like I was learn easily, I got everything the first time around, didn't understand why the other kids didn't get it. If I got a B I was devistated. My husband was the same way. And, when our son went to school, he was the same way, but then, something happened. He got bored. He used to come home crying when he was in 1st grade complaining that he wasn't learning anything. I went to his teacher first, told her that he needed more challenge... when that didn't work, I went to the principle, then voiced my disappointment in the parent teacher meetings. They promised to tax his ability more... did they? NO... then finally, in 2nd grade, he learned to turn them off. They weren't teaching him things that he didn't know, everything was boring. By Third grade, when he was getting things that he didn't know, he had already given up. By Fifth grade, I pulled him out of school, home schooling was hard, but at least my son started learning again. After the basics, he was caught up and doing 9th grade work at a 7th grade age. Then, I made a stupid mistake again. I let him return to school in 8th grade. Again, bored, again turned them off. They tested him to see if he was a "slow learner" because they had special classes for THEM! NO... he passed those IQ tests with flying colors. They just couldn't understand. I have no faith in public schools teaching the "other" kinds of kids. He got into a Tech school when he was 16, by the time he was 18 he had his state certification in Auto Mechanics. So, he isn't stupid by any means, just couldn't handle the humdrum repititions of regular school. At Auto Tech, as soon as he learned one thing, he was passed on to another... wasn't held back for the other kids to catch up.... doing the same thing over and over again until he was bored to death and gave up completely. Right? Probably not... but, that is his make up, school did not help him. How many other kids are bored to death, but don't have parents as determined as I to try to set it right? --- þ Synchronet þ Queen's Castle - queens.slyip.net .
