I live in what they call the "bible belt" of the US, and often times sub-called the Buckle of the belt, so being agnostic often makes me an outsider in some circles. I didn't grow-up in a religious household like most around me did, so the Christian religion is as foreign to me as the Jewish religion, Islam religion, etc. ALso I look at the Christian beliefs with the same eye as other beliefs including that of Greek, Egyption, etc. My growing-up was very matter-of-factual, so to believe was to see. For me now as an adult to grasp any religious belief without some facts is impossible for me. If I had to take any religion it would be either an open one like the Unitarians or one based on nature like the Wiccans. For me my beliefs and worship are to nature, not to some disembodied being. Other then the teachings most folks get as a kid there's no facts to pursuade or disuade folks from one ideal or another... With all this being said I think religion is good for many. FOr me I don't need religion to keep my life on track, but some do. I volunteer when I can, I give to charities, and I help folks as much as I can. I don't advertise my good deeds for a pat on the back, etc because I do these things for my own wellbeing -- not for some ticket into heaven or feathres in some religious cap or brownie points with some higher power. I think many religious folks do what they do becaus they think some higher power is watching... but that shouldn't be the only reason to be a good person. Oh well, sorry for the soap box, but I see this crap daily.
